Join our team

At OMNI, we are committed to the academic and professional development of highly qualified personnel in the field of maternal and child health research.

Our team is affiliated with both the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI), and The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute (CHEO RI), two of Canada’s largest teaching hospitals and most successful research institutes. Our offices are located at the Centre for Practice Changing Research; a shared CHEO RI/OHRI space. Through OHRI we have access to core resources including the Clinical Investigation Unit and Ottawa Methods Centre that support the successful execution of research projects.

Our close proximity to CHEO RI also strengthens our collaboration with our partners at The Better Outcomes Registry & Network (BORN) Ontario, Ontario’s provincial birth registry.

Career Opportunities

Career opportunities with the OMNI Research Group and at the OHRI can be found here.

Mentorship and Training

At OMNI, we are committed to providing mentorship and training that is tailored to meet the individual needs of our trainees and mentees. Our goals are to:

  • foster an energetic, dynamic training environment;
  • equip trainees with the tools required for success in academia (e.g., knowledge synthesis, manuscript writing, presentation skills etc.);
  • enhance national research capacity in obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine.

Early career scientists and students in our group benefit from clinical and methodological rounds, courses and workshops hosted by our group, and more broadly by the departments and institutes with which we are affiliated. Trainees also benefit from informal day-to-day interactions with Senior Scientists and Clinical Investigators as well as other students, residents and clinical fellows.

Mentorship and training opportunities include:

Summer student internships

We offer summer student internships to undergraduate and medical students. These 3-4 month positions provide an opportunity gain practical research experience and to work on small independent projects that contribute to the OMNI research portfolio. If you are interested in joining our team as a summer student, please contact us as early as possible (preferably at the start of the new year).

Undergraduate and graduate training

Individuals considering an undergraduate honours thesis project or a Master’s or Doctorate program through the University of Ottawa are encouraged to ask us about opportunities with our group. Our team members include Clinical Scientists and Methodologists with appointments to the University of Ottawa who can provide mentorship and training in maternal child health research.

Mentorship

Medical and nursing students, residents training in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and fellows in maternal-fetal medicine interested in contributing to our research projects are welcome. We encourage our mentees to embrace all aspects of research including ethical considerations for research, study design and implementation, participant recruitment strategies, data collection and analysis, and knowledge translation.

Postdoctoral Fellowships

Individuals seeking postdoctoral fellowship positions are encouraged to contact us about opportunities to join our group.
