The Obstetrics Maternal Newborn Investigation (OMNI) Research Group was founded in 2001 by Dr. Mark Walker, Perinatologist at The Ottawa Hospital, Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) and Associate Professor with the University of Ottawa in collaboration with Dr. Shi Wu Wen, Senior Scientist at the OHRI and Professor with the University of Ottawa along with Ruth Rennicks White, as Research Program Manager. Through their united interests and the similarity in their visions for maternal-infant health, they quickly realized the opportunities for potential research and created a partnership to work towards the betterment of women health during pregnancy and their offspring. Each individual has brought specific skills and expertise that has caused this joint venture to be OMNI's success.
The vision of OMNI is of a world-renowned perinatal epidemiology research group, whose efforts will benefit the health of pregnant women and of infants both nationally and globally.
The OMNI Mission Statement is one of fundamental dedication to the betterment of women’s health through research into the social, cultural, economic, environmental and biologic factors of diseases in pregnancy, infancy and childhood.
